Anna's Diagnosis and treatment

Anna has been diagnosed with PNet (Primitive Neuroectodermal Tumor) . It is a type of childhood cancer. She has a tumor that is located on the left side of her neck. It extends from the top of her spine, down the side of her neck down towards her collar bone. Although it is a fairly large tumor it is localized to that area. It is pressing on some of the nerves that control her left arm, therefore they have opted not to attempt to surgically remove the mass first. She started her first round of Chemo Thursday and will complete that round tonight (Saturday, October 22, 2005). If everything goes well tonight we can go home tomorrow. We will continue to visit Children's Hospital in Birmingham every three weeks for the next year for Anna to receive Chemotherapy. After the first twelve to fifteen weeks of her treatment, her surgery team will re-evaluate the tumor and see if they can remove it at that time. We will still continue her chemo treatments every three weeks even if it is removed. They want to make sure they take care of any other stray cancer cells she may have. She has done fantastic throughout this entire ordeal. We want to thank everyone for their thoughts, prayers, and support. We will keep you updated as things progress.

Lorra and Thomas,
My name is Al Lesch. My wife, son, and I are good friends of Michael and Misty's from Mobile. I'm very saddened to hear of Anna's diagnosis. I'm a Cardiovascular Perrfusionist, and work with a surgeon that worked in Birmingham. He knows many of the surgeons at Childrens. If you ever want me to ask him who he would suggest to go see, no matter what the field, I would be happy to do so, and he would be happy to help.
Misty knows how to contact me.
Our prayers for Anna are with you.
Al, Buddy, Cindy Lesch

Last week I e-mailed the information about Anna to Elaine LeFleur, Gov. Riley secretary. She returned my letter and asked for the Casson phone number, which I have sent to her today. They should be hearing from the Governor. Our church and others I have contacted as far away as LaCenter, KY, have Anna in their prayers. Love to all. Aunt Ruth and Uncle Chuck
I just want you all to know that your family is in my thoughts and prayers. I also have my church praying for you. I'm sure everyone tells you that... but, I believe that prayer is a very powerful thing. I just lost my little girl, Hayden, 5 months ago and it's been the hardest thing my husband and I have EVER had to go though. I was 8 months pregnant with my angel. The reason I'm telling you this is because I know how hard life can be sometimes and my faith in the Lord as well as having my husband, friends and family has helped me so much. Most of all, prayer has made a major difference in my life. So, I will do the only thing I can & pray.
Love,
Erica Hartzog
